Daniel J. Schluchter, 81, of Neche, ND passed away Friday, May 5, 2017 at Wedgewood Manor in Cavalier after a short illness. A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, May 13, 2017 at 2:00 p.m. at the Askew Funeral Home, Cavalier, ND. Daniel John Schluchter was born December 8, 1935, at Cavalier, ND to John “Jack” and Helen (Bobert) Schluchter. After attending public school in Cavalier, Dan joined the North Dakota National Guard and received his training at Fort Leonard Wood, MO. Upon his return to Cavalier, he was employed by Ernie Letzring at Letzring Concrete for a number of years. In February of 1968, he moved to Inglewood, CA. He was hired there by a former Langdon, ND resident, Wilburt Graveline to operated heavy equipment. After reconnecting with Carol Sass, formerly from Grafton, ND, they were married in October of 1978. They remained in Inglewood until they both retired in 1995, at which time they moved to Vancouver, WA. In 2002, they moved to Neche, ND. Dan was an avid antique car enthusiast and was able to devote more time to his lifelong hobby of restoring old cars. He is survived by his wife, Carol of 38 years; children: Thomas (Mayette) Schluchter, Inglewood, CA and Susan Prittie, London Derry, NH; grandchildren: Seth and Hana Prittie; sisters: Judy (Jim) Radke, Sacramento, CA and Janice (Gene) Geiger, Kingston, WA; sister-in-law, Mary Jane Olson, Vancouver, WA; brother-in-law, Michael Einarson, Vancouver, WA; numerous nieces and nephews; his beloved dog, Gretchen.
