(nee Dueck)
October 20, 1944 - August 19, 2025
Alvina was born on October 20, 1944 to John and Helena Dueck of Blumenfeld. She married Jake Derksen on June 21, 1964. They celebrated 50 years of marriage and were blessed with three children, Murray (wife Jackie, daughters Jessie and Bailey), Randy (wife Cori, children Kierra and Lane), and Jocelyn (husband Grant Wiebe, children Hannah, Seth and his wife Neila).
Alvina grew up in the village of Blumenfeld. She was the middle child, between her sisters Norma and Linda. Alvina spent a lot of time outdoors on the farm working with her dad creating a close bond.
After high school, Alvina worked at Salem Home until she married Jake and moved to Rosenfeld. There she spent her time raising her family.
She enjoyed life in a small community and developed many lifetime friendships.
Alvina opened her house to many unexpected guests. This included people Jake brought home for lunch from the elevator, stranded travelers that stopped at the garage next door, and school children that couldn’t get home due to storms.
A move to Winkler started a new era. They lived on Salem Crescent. This prompted an invitation for Alvina to return to work at Salem home part-time. She developed many friendships at work that lasted a lifetime.
Alvina was thrilled when the grandchildren started arriving. Everyone heard about them and their activities! She treasured each one of them and created special memories with all of them.
Alvina had lots of creative interests. She sewed, crocheted, knitted, quilted, gardened, baked, cooked, and decorated for each season.
Throughout her life, she experienced many medical challenges and always persevered. She would adjust to the “new normal”.
As strong as her love was for her family, her love of the Lord was the center of her being. She prayed daily for each of her family members and others. She was prepared and looking forward to arriving in heaven.
