Anna Dyck (nee Wiebe)
1947 ~ 2024
Mom passed away peacefully in the early morning hours of Thursday, February 8 at BTHC due to complications from surgery.
Mom was born on December 16, 1947 to Johan and Maria (Blatz) Wiebe in the village of Saucito (Altnau, Compo 35) in Chihuahua, Mexico. Mom’s dad passed away when she was 2 years old. She would fondly share the memories of swimming in the river near her home as a child. When she was young they moved to Blumenheim, Campo 102.
Mom was baptized upon the confession of her faith by Bishop Abram Schmidt on May 15, 1967. That same year, after a 3 year courtship, she married our Dad, Abraham Dyck, on August 13th, 1967 in Blumenhof. They were blessed with 51 years, 2 months and 27 days together in marriage before Dad’s passing in November 2018.
In April 1981 they moved to Canada with a family of 6 children. They had two more children after their move to Canada. On November 11, 1982 they purchased a home in Reinland and resided there until 2018 before moving to Winkler.
Mom was employed at Pembina Poultry Packers, Braman Furniture, Farm King, and Winkler Meats. She retired at the age of 67.
We were blessed with a wonderful loving Mother, Grandmother and Great-grandmother with a heart to serve. She loved to bless us with meals. She was always willing to help with anything we as children needed. She was always there to give us a listening ear and encourage her children and grandchildren.
We have fond memories of how she loved Sunday afternoon drives in the country, puzzling, playing Chinese checkers and other games together as a family. If there was bad weather, she’d call to make sure that we made it to work safely.
Mom would spend hours in a store that she had no interest in because it was a store that we enjoyed. When Mom was asked if she was ready to go she would reply “Ekj senn aul lang reed je’wasst.”
Mom & Dad grew up learning to work hard and were always ready to help any of their children. When our parents heard that we were doing house renovations or other building projects like building a shed, Dad & Mom would show up to help. They were sure to be present for several shingling jobs and slaughtering days. When it came to butchering, Mom was completely in her element and worked until she couldn’t anymore. Anyone who worked with Mom at the Poultry Plant knows that Mom could really sharpen a knife.
…and of course, as soon as you think of Mom, the topic of food seems to come up. She would look after lunch and coffee during building projects and still helped in between the meal, where she could. She’d be ready to serve a meal if someone stopped in and always had a cupboard filled with snack food. Sunday after Church she’d serve lunch to the family and by 4pm she’d have faspa ready. Still being full from lunch she’d ask, “Why don’t you eat? Don’t you like it?” When a meal or a gathering was done, she’d talk like the leftover food was a burden that we needed help her with. Mom’s burden of leftovers became our blessing. She’d be sure to portion it all out and send it home with us. It was her joy to bless us with the leftovers.
While going through pictures, we found that mom is often in the background. Always serving.
Mom is lovingly remembered by her son, John and wife Helen and their son Jason (Gnadenthal), Anna (Greenfarm), Mary (Morden), Nettie and husband Chris Pauls and their children Justin, Kaitlyn, Charity, Daniel, Nathaniel, Zachary and Rachelle (Reinfeld). Abe and wife Boni and their children Andrew, Samantha (Sam Fast and daughter Kinzley (Lowe Farm)), Alyssa and Isabelle (Rosetown). Susie and husband Sylvain Desilets and their children Tiffany, Gabrielle, Shawn, and Nick (Myrtle). Agatha and husband Henry Friesen and their children Josh, Ryan, Ethan, Alison, Noah and Emily (RM of Stanley), Sara (Winkler), 3 sisters and 3 brothers and their families, and all those who called her Mom.
Mom was predeceased by her husband Abraham Dyck (2018), her parents Johan and Maria (Blatz) Wiebe, Step Father Johan Wolfe, 8 sisters and 3 brothers, and several grandchildren in infancy.
We sorrow not as those who have no hope but fully believe that she has gone to be with her Lord and Saviour, to enjoy the beauty of Heaven for evermore.
We as a family would like to say thank you to Abram and Tina Friesen for all the rides to Church they provided for Mom. A special thank you, to all the loyal friends, who came so regularly to visit and show an amazing love to our Mom. Thank you for all the prayers, food, cards, visits, calls, hugs and everyone for coming to the funeral from near and far. Thank you to Bishop Peter and Susan Elias for the service and for going above and beyond with the support you gave us throughout this difficult season.
