Anna was born on September 12, 1929, in Nekoma, North Dakota, the cherished daughter of Joseph and Anna Bachel. Raised on a family farm, Anna's early years were spent alongside her brothers and sisters, helping with chores and finding joy in the simple pleasures of rural life, especially the company of her beloved cats, a love that would stay with her throughout her life.
A devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and woman of strong faith, Anna lived a life centered on love, service, and prayer. No matter how full her days were, she always took time to give thanks and honor the Lord. Her faith was her foundation, and it radiated through her gentle spirit, her compassion, and her constant readiness to lend a helping hand or a comforting word.
As a young woman, Anna ventured to Minneapolis, MN, following her older sister in search of work. After a brief time there, she returned to North Dakota, where she met the love of her life, Edwin Jochim, who was then working for the North Dakota State Highway Department. They married and built a beautiful life together in Langdon, ND, raising five children: Michael, Mark, Patrick, Stephen, and Lori.
Anna was the heart of her home—nurturing, steadfast, and endlessly giving. In addition to her role as a homemaker, she worked as a waitress at the Green Mill Café, where she became known for her dedication, warmth, and incredible ability to carry multiple plates at once—all with a smile. Her customers became friends, and her coworkers became family.
Later in life, Anna devoted herself to caring for elderly women in her community, offering not only meals and assistance but also companionship, kindness, and genuine friendship. Her afternoons were often shared with a dear elderly neighbor, enjoying soap operas and cookies over coffee—simple moments filled with deep connection.
Anna's love for people, her willingness to listen, and her unfailing comfort during times of sorrow were gifts she gave freely. Her life was marked by both challenges and abundant joy, always met with a heart full of gratitude and unwavering faith in God.
Anna is survived by her five children; Michael (Loretta) Pierre, SD; Mark, Grand Forks, ND; Patrick, Sioux Falls, SD; Stephen, Sioux Falls, SD; and Lori (David) Stangeland, Sioux Falls, SD. Her grandchildren; Bethany Jochim (Peyman Feizollah), Rocky Hill, Connecticut; Joel (Loni) Jochim, Sioux Falls, SD; and Gabriel LeTexier, East Grand Forks, MN.
