
Barbara was born to Walford and Jean Vick in Port Hope, Ontario on September 24, 1942. She, along with sister Catherine, spent her early years there and in Sarnia, Ontario. The family moved to Morden in July 1958 and she completed her high school years at Morden Collegiate.
She attended St. John’s College and then completed her teaching certificate at the Manitoba Teachers’ College and following her graduation, taught at schools in Darlingford, Morden, and Steinbach.
On July 23, 1961 she married her best friend, Donald Rothenberger and they began married life on their farm south of Morden. In July 1973 their family was completed with the arrival of their son Philip. As careers changed, the family moved to Morden, Russel, Steinbach, Brandon before returning back to Morden.
Barbara was blessed with a quirky sense of humour and could enjoy conversations with everyone she met. She was very creative and produced wonderful crafts for her family and friends in ceramics, crocheting, knitting and sewing. Barbara was the family chronicler, journaling significant personal events every day. She was also known for her penchant for wearing diverse patterned socks.
Barb is survived by her husband of 58 years, their son, her sister, sisters and brothers-in-law, as well as many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
She was predeceased by her parents, a son, her parents-in-law, brothers and sisters-in-law, nieces and nephews.
