1936–2025
Ben Penner passed away peacefully on May 17, 2025, at the age of 89, to be reunited with his wife Minnie in Heaven. He is lovingly remembered by his three surviving daughters—Valerie, Connie, and Lori—their spouses, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and his sister Neta. He was predeceased by his wife Minnie (2015), daughter Janice, and granddaughter Susan.
Born on April 5, 1936, in Rosefarm, Manitoba, Ben was the sixth of seven children. He attended local schools and church, where he developed a deep Christian faith and love for Bible study. He later farmed grain, achieving his childhood dream, and also ran a hog operation for steady income. Ben married Minnie in 1958, and they built a life centered around faith, family, and farming.
He was known for his love of crokinole, travel, and storytelling. Together with Minnie, he explored Canada, the U.S., Europe, and Central America. After retirement, he moved to Winkler but became a devoted caregiver when Minnie suffered a stroke in 2000. Following her passing, Ben eventually required care himself due to Alzheimer’s disease.
Ben spent his final days surrounded by family and under compassionate care. His favorite hymn, "I’ll Fly Away," fittingly marked his peaceful passing.
Donations in memory of Ben can be made to Red Rock Bible Camp
A private family interment will take place at the Rosefarm Cemetery prior to the service.
