
Carol Jane Franklin was born March 30, 1941 near Donaldson, MN to the late David and Emma (Lindblad) Franklin. She attended elementary school at Donaldson and graduated in May 1959 from Kennedy, MN. She attended Juniper Mission Church near Kennedy and was confirmed June 5, 1955.
Carol and Earl Lee of Hoople, ND were married on July 2, 1960 at Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church of Grafton. They enjoyed camping at Lake of the Woods for 40 years. They spent nearly 51 years together before Earl passed away May 31, 2011. During their lifetime together they enjoyed bird watching, feeding the birds, squirrels and rabbits that come to their yard. They had a screen house and loved it out there. Earl collected garden gnomes and Carol painted them. Eventually, Carol collected over 100 of them.
Carol was employed at Northwestern Bell before their son was born in 1966. After that she became a Cub Scout Den mother and sold Avon for 20 years. Carol was a breast cancer survivor. She enjoyed the holidays and would fill her house with company on Thanksgiving and Christmas. She also many pounds of jerky and hundreds of Krum Kaka every year. For several years she enjoyed genealogy and researched many families, highlights were her research of England and Benjamin Franklin, the statesman. She also learned to read Norwegian to find Earl’s relatives. She read the Grand Forks Hearld and did the crossword puzzles every day.
Carol is survived by her son Darren Lee, Grand Forks, ND; grandson: Seth Lee; and great grandchild Trenten Lee; three brothers; Arthur Franklin, Bemidji, MN, Floyd (Clara) Franklin, Delhard, TX, and Elmer Franklin, Mahnomen, MN; two sisters: Marge Seeba, Grafton, ND and Marlyce Ballingrud, Grand Forks, ND; aunt Eunice Swenson, St. Paul, MN; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. She was preceded in death by husband Earl, four infant brothers, great granddaughter Aurora Lee.
Funeral services will be on Saturday, October 12, 2024 at 10:30 a.m. at Bethel Free Lutheran Church of Grafton, ND. Visitation will be at the church one hour prior to the service. Interment will be at Grafton City Cemetery.
