March 1938 – December 2025
Clarence McCutcheon passed away at Selkirk Regional Health Centre on December 12, 2025 at the age of 87. Born on March 27, 1938, in Carman to John and Hazel McCutcheon, Clarence was the third child of 8 siblings. He grew up on the family farm in the Stirling District northwest of Carman, Manitoba, attending school there until grade 8. He was known to be kind and respectful of everyone he met.
After various jobs working for local farmers in the area, driving the mail truck and working at a sawmill in Ontario; his life took him to Winnipeg. At 26 years of age, he began working for the Canadian National Railroad as a Porter and then as a Switchman. He spent the next 35 years at CN until his retirement.
In 1980, he moved from the big city and purchased his own acreage at Hazelridge, where he farmed. He took great pride in his house and yard; everything was always neat and tidy and in its own place. He enjoyed doing puzzles of any kind, jigsaw, crosswords and the daily Jumble in the Winnipeg Free Press. It was always a good idea, before visiting, to call ahead because he might be gone to an auction sale. Auction sales were his weekly social activity. He enjoyed going to sales all over Manitoba to find unique treasures and see familiar faces.
Clarence was a quiet man, but he always made time for family. He very seldom missed a family gathering. He enjoyed family reunions and learning about his heritage.
Clarence is survived by his sister Marjorie Wanless, brother Orvil McCutcheon, sister Jean (Dick) Elias, brother-in-law Ray Mansell, sisters-in-law Shirley McCutcheon and Susan McCutcheon. He is also remembered by many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends. He was predeceased by his parents John and Hazel, brothers Allan, Don and Ken, sister Ruby Mansell, brothers-in-law Ed Hinton and Mervin Wanless and sister-in-law Sharon McCutcheon.
Uncle Clarence, you have lived a fulfilling life and were fortunate to stay in your own home until the end. You are loved and will be deeply missed.
