David J. Klava was born June 21, 1955 in Grafton, North Dakota, the son of the late David D. and Lois (Johnson) Klava. He attended and graduated from Grafton High School. After his schooling he worked as a Welder for French’s Welding. He then moved to Fordville and worked as a farmhand. In 1973, David was united in marriage to Mardell Mattson. The couple made their home in Grafton and had one son, Jason. In 1984, Daivd was united in marriage to Laura Moore. They made their home in Elk Grove, California and welcomed two children, Justin and Joann. In 2006, David was united in marriage to Debbie Shireman. While living in California he worked as a Draftsman for several companies. David moved to Grafton in 2017 and worked at Home of Economy and AmericInn until his retirement.
He was a member of Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church, Grafton. David loved his family and loved being outside, hunting, fishing, shooting guns and music.
David is survived by his children: Jason (Katie) Klava, Warsaw, ND; Justin (Gaby) Klava, Atlanta, GA; Joann Klava, Sacramento, CA; grandchildren: Trevor Klava, Trenton Klava and Adrien Charboneau; siblings: John (Kris) Klava, Grafton, ND; Judy (Jeff Zejdlik) Klava, Grand Forks, ND; Karen (John) Czapiewski, Minot, ND; Sarah (Allen Skjerven) Iverson, Edinburg, ND; numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews also survive. He was preceded in death by his parents, grandparents, sister JoAnn (Joey) Klava, brother-in-law Larry Iverson and infant nephew Raymond Klava.
Memorial services will be Tuesday, July 2, 2024 at 2:00 P.M. at Grafton Lutheran Church, Grafton, ND. Visitation will be for one hour prior to the service at the church. Inurnment will be at the North Trinity Lutheran Cemetery, rural Grafton, ND.
