Gathering of family and friends will be held at the Gilbertson Funeral Home, Devils Lake ND on Monday, August 8, 2022 from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. The Celebration of Life will be on Tuesday, August 9, 2022 at 9:00 a.m. at the funeral home with Pastor Joe Atilano officiating. A family burial and military honors will follow at the Fargo National Cemetery, rural Fargo ND.
David Jake Koehn was born on June 2, 1955 at Egeland ND, the son of Alfred “Sonny” and Irene (Greening) Koehn. He grew up in the Egeland area, attended Egeland Public School and graduated from Egeland High School with the class of 1974. He entered the United States Army on July 22, 1975 and proudly served his country with the 101st Airborne Division. Over two years of service were spent in Germany. He was honorably discharged from active duty on July 20, 1979 with the rank of Specialist 4th Class and continued with the Reserves until July 1, 1981.
David was united in marriage to Jill Regan on July 17, 1987 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Devils Lake. They established their home in Munich, ND. David had been working for Aafedt’s Meats in Munich for a few years and along with is wife Jill, they purchased and became the operators of the famous meat market.
In 2000, the family moved to Minto ND and David worked for Strata Corporation out of Grand Forks until retiring in 2015. For the past five years, David and Jill have called Grand Forks home.
David was an active member of any of the communities where he lived. He was a volunteer EMT and was a member of the Sarles American Legion when he lived in Munich and was a member of the Minto American Legion while living there.
David enjoyed several pastimes and hobbies, but he had such a passion for and loved his dogs. He now was the proud owner of three mini dachshunds.
David proudly served his country, was a devoted and loving husband, dad, grandpa, brother, uncle and dear friend.
David’s surviving family include his wife of 35 years, Jill; sons James (Jordan) Koehn of El Paso TX and Jacob (Carissa) Koehn of Hillsboro ND; daughter Ana (Chad) Kowalski of Rockford MN; grandchildren Jackson and Juliana Koehn, Hudson and Channing Koehn and another precious grandchild soon to be born; brother Charles (Tina) Koehn, Aberdeen SD; sister Charlene Altendorf, Minto ND; brother-in-law Oscar Miller, Raleigh ND; father-in-law Glen Regan, Webster ND and many dear nieces, nephews and their families.
He was preceded in death by his parents, sister Rachel Miller, brother-in-law Martin Altendorf and mother-in-law Helen Regan.
Casket Bearers for David will be friends Josh Moreland, Ernie Gerszewski, Joe Atilano and Rene Kari and two god sons Aaron Gunn and Kyle Altendorf.
