On April 7, 1946 Dave’s journey began in Swan River, MB. When Dave was 16 he ventured off to Saskatchewan to work on the Saskatchewan Dam. Then later he worked on the oil fields in Alberta. Because he missed his family he moved back to Manitoba working on various jobs in the farming and auto body sector in Carman and Winnipeg. Due to health reasons he quit and started his trucking career. He started driving for Leamington Transport. A couple of years later he purchased his very own truck a Cab over Freightliner.
In the 60’s and 70’s on and off he went south harvesting with his father and family. In the fall of 1968 he met his soul mate and lifetime partner MaryLou. They married September 21, 1974. Dave then started his own construction company. He was also intrigued with flying he obtained his private pilot’s license. Due to a tragic accident he had to give up his Construction company. He then became a grain buyer for number of years with Northern Sales. In Jan 1986 they were blessed with their first born Philip. Dave then purchased another truck and returned to trucking long haul pulling reefers, flat decks, and vans. In Feb 1989 they were blessed with another son Matthew. Because he was gone a lot when the kids were growing up he came off the long haul. Then switched to grain hauling, it allowed him to take the boys or MaryLou along on trips and kept him closer to home. He then purchased a grain trailer. At first a tandem trailer then later switched to Super B’s. In 2014 Due to health reasons he ended his trucking career with Truck Freight.
In 2014 we also welcomed a new addition to the family Amanda Matthew’s wife. In Feb 2017 he welcomed his Grandson Cole into his life. 2 years later in March 2019 he welcomed granddaughter Amy into his life. He enjoyed spending his time with them and always brought a big smile on his face. Dave enjoyed working on projects at home. He was talented no matter what he did.
Dave fought a courageous battle with cancer. He never backed down he fought hard. He passed away peacefully at his residence on November 4, 2023. A special thanks to Melissa, Mandy and Giselle from homecare.
You fought a good fight and inspired others. Rest in Peace. Until we meet again. Love you always. Roll on down the highway to Heaven.
