Dennis Anderson was born on June 4, 1949, in Grafton, ND to Arthur and Laura Anderson. He grew up in Hensel, ND and graduated from Cavalier High School in 1967. Dennis married his high school sweetheart, Gloria Wallin, on April 21, 1968, in Hallock, MN. After they wed, Dennis and Gloria lived in Grand Forks, ND while Dennis attended UND. They moved to Grafton, ND in 1972 where they raised their three daughters, Christi, Kari, and Kellie.
Dennis began his career as a high school shop teacher and 5th and 6th grade basketball coach. He then went to work at Morton buildings while also running a Weed Badger business. Dennis always felt a connection to farming and helped his uncles and cousins in beet harvest for many years. He joined Agsco in 1991, where he supported farmers in rural communities. Dennis enjoyed a long career at Agsco and retired in 2015. Dennis was also a Potato Associate for over 20 years and served on the Potato Associate Steering Committee where he was involved in funding research, purchasing plot machinery, and helping to organize social gatherings.
Dennis spent many weekend mornings on the golf course with his friends, sons-in-law, and grandchildren. He enjoyed watching old westerns, spending time tinkering in his garage, listening to music while sitting on his deck, and celebrating his Icelandic heritage at August the Deuce.
More than anything, Dennis was happiest surrounded by his family, who he loved so much. His nine grandchildren were his pride and joy, and he spent as much time with them as possible. Driving grandpa’s golf cart in the alley was a summertime rite of passage. Dennis so enjoyed supporting his grandchildren and attended as many of their activities and games as possible. He would say goodbye with his signature catchphrase, “See you in the funny papers”.
Dennis never met a stranger. No matter where he went, he either ran into someone he knew or made a new friend. He was the consummate neighbor, always willing to lend a hand. Dennis touched many lives and will be fiercely missed by his family and friends.
Dennis was preceded in death by his parents, brother (Bobby), and father and mother-in-law. He is survived by his wife, Gloria; daughters Christi (Dean) Windjue, Kari (Craig) Alme, and Kellie (Anthony) Burianek; grandchildren Joey Rodin, Jenna (Ryan Haahr), Emily, Taylor, and Brandon Windjue; Kaitlyn (Jordan) Alme-Hjelseth and Colten Alme; and Gracie and Brody Burianek; brothers Dale Anderson and Keith (Patti) Anderson; uncles Russell Anderson and Ben Cox; aunts Carrie Anderson, Judy Cox, and Roberta Cox; and several cousins, nieces, and nephews.
A celebration of life will be held at Grafton Lutheran Church on Thursday, October 3rd at 11:00 am in Grafton, ND. Visitation will begin one hour prior to the service and lunch will be served at the church immediately following. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Alzheimer's Association in honor of Dennis’ uncle Lawrence or to First Care Health Center in Park River, ND.
See you in the funny papers, Dennis.
