Don was born September 9, 1945, the son of the late Alvin and Elsie (Leiberg) Steenerson of Bowesmont, ND. He was raised in Bowesmont and Drayton, ND, graduating from Drayton High School. Don went on to Aakers Business College in Grand Forks and served in the U.S. Army until he was honorably discharged on July 11, 1972. Don’s rank was Military Police.
Don married Mary VanCamp in Drayton, ND and to this union welcomed son Jeffery (deceased), son Chad, daughter Marit and grandchildren: Nathan, Addie and Jason.
Don worked as a railroad clerk for BNSF in Grand Forks for over 30 years. Don was a proud member of AA with 45 years sobriety. He was also an avid golfer, loved music, playing cards, puzzle books and belonging to the Senior Citizen Center.
Don married the love of his life, Kathy (Estad) Steenerson on October 19, 1996. To this union he gained a son Michael Estad and a daughter Sherry (Dan) Fjestad. He welcomed grandchildren: John Fjestad, Cole (Leah) Hodny, Jacob Fjestad, Mariah McWalter, Jaden Fjestad, Abby (Cooper) McWalter, Brynn Estad, Stella Fjestad and great grandchildren: Hudson and Adalyn. The grandchildren and great grandchildren were the loves of his life.
Don was preceded in death by his parents, brothers: Marlin (Margory), Roger (Barb), Richard (Ruthann) and Michael and his son Jeff.
Don is survived by his wife Kathy, sons: Chad and Michael, daughters: Marit and Sherry (Dan), grandchildren: John, Cole (Leah), Jacob, Mariah, Jaden, Abby (Cooper), Brynn, Stella, Nathan, Addie and Jason and great grandchildren: Hudson and Adalyn, also his sister-in-law Carol Steenerson and many nieces and nephews.

Memorial services will be Tuesday, May 28, 2024 at 7:00 P.M. at the Tollefson Funeral Home of Grafton. Visitation will be from 5-7:00 P.M. at the Tollefson Funeral Home. Inurnment will be at the Bowesmont Cemetery, Bowesmont, ND. Military Rites will be provided by the Grafton American Legion Post 41 and the North Dakota National Guard Honor Guard.
