Doreen Baker (nee Penner)
1932 ~ 2024On February 6th, 2024, at 2:45 pm, Doreen Baker passed away peacefully to be with her Savior, Jesus Christ.
Doreen was born on October 4, 1932, and grew up in Lowe Farm, MB. She was the oldest of 9 children, born to Ben & Katherine Penner. Doreen had an aptitude for school, being a formidable student. Her love for learning turned into her vocational pursuit of being a schoolteacher. She attended Teacher’s College (Normal School) in Winnipeg. Once becoming a certified teacher, Doreen moved to Morden, teaching in 1-Room school houses, such as, The Diamond School.
While in Morden, Doreen met Jim Baker, whom she married on September 29, 1956. In their early years of marriage, Jim & Doreen lived in Bissett, MB and Estevan, SK. Their best years were spent in Morden where they settled down in the community and raised their family. Once Jim retired from a long career, serving the town of Morden as barber for more than 40 years, Jim and Doreen moved to Oakbank, MB. Jim & Doreen were together for nearly 50 years, before Jim passed away on August 16, 2005.
Doreen loved the daily puzzles in the paper and was an avid reader. But it was not enough to take away the loneliness she had from losing Jim. In 2010, Doreen met John Hiebert of Alexander. John had also grown up in Lowe Farm and on June 4, 2011, John and Doreen were married. They were together for 10 years before John passed away on March 28, 2021.
Alone again, Doreen, was given the opportunity of returning to where family life had begun … back to Morden, to live at Oak West Estates, moving in on December 6, 2022. However, her health began to wane, and in July 2023, she moved into Tabor Home to finish out her time here in this world.
