It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of William Edward (Ed) on November 20, 2025.
Ed, a loving husband, father and grandfather, has passed away peacefully at the age of 92, in the Carman Memorial Hospital.
Ed was predeceased by his son Carl and is survived by his loving wife of 70 years, Helen; children Laurel (James), Darlene (Raymond), Cheryl (Lawrence), Denise (Gerry) and his grandson (Carl’s son whom he and Helen raised) Jason (Jenn) as well as many other grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Born in Boissevain, MB on September 26, 1933, he was raised on the family farm and eventually met the love of his life, “the only women I’ve ever been with and loved,” as he stated many times. They eventually moved to Dryden, ON where they built a home and raised their children. They later resided in Richer, MB and moved onto their final home in Paradise Village in Ste. Anne, MB.
Although Ed worked many years and retired from the forestry industry, his favourite job was when he was working for the Department of Highways as a dozer operator. His favourite sports were NHL hockey and women’s curling. He was a Montreal Canadians (Habs) fan through and through and cheered for Team Homan in the women’s curling since their debut.
I have wonderful memories of him as I was growing up, watching dad listening to the Carter Family, tapping his fingers on his armchair and whistling along with the tune. Two of his favourite songs were “Come to the Church in the Wildwood”, and “Wildwood Flower.”
Dad, we will cherish your most common expression, “Much gooder,” repeatedly for years to come.
The family would like to thank the entire staff at the Carman Memorial Hospital for the excellent care and compassion that they showed Ed during his stay.
As per his and Helen’s final wishes, there will not be a service and in lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Heart & Stroke foundation.
