(née Klassen)
October 12, 1937 - May 16, 2026
Elizabeth (Betty) Penner, aged 88, passed away peacefully on Saturday, May 16, 2026, at Tabor Home in Morden, Manitoba. Born near Esterhazy, Saskatchewan, to the late Jacob T. Klassen and Maria Klassen, Betty lived a life marked by faith, service, and devotion to her family and community.
Betty was known for her love of gardening, baking, canning, watercolour, knitting, crocheting, attending church, playing table games, and volunteering in various thrift stores. She enjoyed working in a restaurant for numerous years in her sixties. She was a dedicated servant of God, exemplifying faithfulness to her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and all who knew her. When her children were young, Betty spent many hours in outreach, sending hundreds of tracts through Christian ministry mailing lists, and prayed daily for her family's spiritual well-being that they would understand their need for the salvation which is given freely by God through faith in Him.
In her later years, she attended a women's Bible study group developing close relationships with the women. She also found immense joy in worship music which Dave introduced her too, especially Michael W. Smith. It was inspiring to watch her excitement and joy as she worshipped and grew spiritually. It was humorous that she kept telling everyone they should listen to Michael W. Smith when she was introduced to him at a later time in her life!
She is survived by her four children: Lawrence Penner (Rossendale, MB), Lorna (Glenn) Barnes (Wetaskiwin, AB), Elma Fitzsimmons (Airdrie, AB), and Dave (Evelyn) Penner (Morden, MB); 17 grandchildren; and 9 great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by twin siblings in infancy and her two older sisters, Helena Suderman (2023) and Maria Giesbrecht (2015).
A Celebration of Life will be held on Thursday, May 21, 2026, at 2:00 p.m. in the chapel at Wiebe Funeral Home. Morden, with interment at Southside Cemetery. Viewing will be on May 20. 2026 from 6pm - 9pm and 1 hour before the celebration begins.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Betty's memory may be made to the Alzheimer's Society.
