Emma Juliana Baumgart (nee Figur)
1928 ~ 2023
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our dear mother, Emma Baumgart on Thursday December 21, 2023 at Boundary Trails Health Centre at the age of 95 years.
She is lovingly remembered by her four daughters: Esther (Gordon) Sawka, Elaine (Arnold) Hundt, Sharna Baumgart, Charlotte (Glen) Didyk; two sons: Lloyd (Shyrrol) Baumgart and Charles (Donni) Baumgart; four grandchildren: Kaleigh Bergen, Courtnay Baumgart, Jonathan Baumgart, Rhylee Didyk and their families of five great grandchildren as well as her sister, Erna Andersson. Emma was predeceased by her loving husband, William Baumgart (2008), grandson, Kelly Sawka and brothers: Berthold, William, Edwin and sisters: Elona, Bertha, Theodora and Elfrieda.
Emma was born in Compeer, AB on April 6, 1928. She was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith. On December 5, 1945 Emma married William Baumgart. They moved to Darlingford where they farmed and raised their family of six children. In 1992, their retirement saw them make a new home in Winkler, MB. Emma was an incredibly talented seamstress and sewed many beautiful outfits for the children late into the early morning hours. She also sewed quilts, drapery and enjoyed knitting. Farm life and family kept her very busy with baking, a large garden, canning winter preserves and cooking for the harvesting crew. Scenic drives out in the country, viewing new housing developments, speaking German whenever the opportunity arose, reading her Bible and prayer books and browsing in stores were Emma’s favorite things in life. Being a stay-at-home wife and mother, she devoted many hours of love and care to her family. Emma’s unwavering strength and determination continued to amaze us as she faced numerous health challenges most of her life. Her strong faith, gentle spirit and her quiet sense of humor will be embedded on our minds each time we think of her.
Special thanks to the doctors, surgeons, medical nursing staff and health care aides for all their loving care given to Mom during her five month stay at Boundary Trails Health Centre. The Baumgart family would like to thank Pastor Alex Klages, organist, Arlene Peters, Wiebe Funeral Home, the pallbearers, ushers, church serving group, friends and relatives for their thoughts and prayers during this difficult time.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Emma’s memory are gratefully accepted and can be made to the Trinity Lutheran Church 1111 Southview Dr. Winkler, MB R6W 1Y4.
Jesus said unto her, I am the resurrection, and the life: he that believeth in me, though he were dead, yet shall he live: and whosoever liveth and believeth in me shall never die. Believest thou this?
