Erna was predeceased by her parents, her siblings and their spouses, her husband William Hein and son -in-law Donald Krentz. She leaves to mourn her children Jeanette (Jean) and Al, Sharon and Herman, Barbara, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great- grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Erna grew up in Hochstadt, Manitoba, (near Steinbach). She and William (Bill) married in 1940 and lived on the farm south of Brunkild, Manitoba, raising grain, cattle, chickens, pigs, and grew a large garden providing food for her immediate family and others.
Erna was talented in many handicrafts. She sewed (for herself, her girls, her mother, others), knitted, crocheted. Erna was active at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Brunkild teaching Sunday School, in Evangelical Lutheran Women’s group, singing in the choir and solos. Music was very special to Erna throughout her life. Even when she could not longer communicate she always tapped her toes or nodded her head in time with the music.
As well as working at home on the farm, Erna also worked at the Carmen Hospital and the Carman Co-op.
For many years Erna and Bill did their “snowbirding” in homes of friends who lived in Carman, Manitoba, but “snowbirded” farther south. She and Bill travelled to Europe, Hawaii, Barbados and took many road trips to Southern United States and Western Canada.
Erna and Bill retired from the farm and moved to Winnipeg in June of 1996. After Bill’s death in 2004, she moved to The Links Assisted Living on Roblin Blvd., then to Supported Housing at The Rosewood on Waverley and finally to Golden West Centennial Lodge on School Road in Winnipeg in November 2013 where she received excellent care.
A special thanks to all the Staff at Golden West to whom she was known as “Oma”. A very special Thank You to Wendy and Staff on the third floor who lovingly cared for “Oma” during her time there.
Thank you to everyone who has come to support her family and honor her long life.
