Ernie is survived by his wife of 62 years, Ollie (nee Pshyk). Left to cherish his memory are his three children: Brent (Annette), Mark (Colleen) and Grant (Joanne); four grandchildren Brittany (Jerome Hunt), Tiffany (Cody Grice), Ryan and Delaney Waschuk and Braidy (Mersadie Unger). He is also survived by one sister Eva Grams and numerous nieces and nephews and many dear friends.
Ernie was born on July 6, 1931 in Kwasow, Poland (what is now Ukraine) to Fred and Tekla Waschuk. The family immigrated to Canada in 1937 and eventually settled in Swan River farming community. He met his love, Ollie through his sister in Edmonton in 1959 and married in November 5, 1960.
Ernie farmed with his dad until his marriage to Ollie and then farmed the land until his retirement. Throughout his farming years, he was also employed in general construction during the off season. He used to say that he worked in Thompson “before the town even existed!” He never sat around and was a very hard worker and this was instilled in his sons.
Ernie was involved with the Swan River Pentecostal Church. He volunteered over the years and was a man of deep faith.
Ernie and Ollie enjoyed many years down south. Having travelled to both Florida and Texas, they met some amazing friends. To this day, those friends have been an important part of their lives. They will miss Ernie.
Thank you to the staff at Boyne Lodge for taking such good care of Ernie. It was very appreciated by the family.
If friends so desire, donations can be made to the charity of their choice.
