Dad was born in Chihuahua Mexico on December 30, 1944 to Peter and Maria Dyck. The spring of 1964 at the Altona Rhineland Mennonite Church, Dad was baptized upon the confession of his faith. On June 21, 1964, Dad married his Honey Girl, Helen Nickel, and were together for almost 58 years. They were blessed with 3 sons and 4 daughters to continue on with their Christian values. Dad and Mom lived in Starbuck where they started their family having 3 boys. Dad worked at Motor Coach in Winnipeg during this time. He loved bowling with his boss’s league on Monday nights and going out for food afterwards. In 1969 they moved the family to Bolivia where they remained for 8 years. During these years they continued growing their family adding 4 daughters. Dad worked hard providing for the family by working 6 days a week at the Cheese Factory (where he worked 7 years), and then coming home to help Mom on the small farm. Dad and Mom moved the family back to Canada in 1977 where they lived in different communities until settling in Plum Coulee in 1980. Monarch was Dad’s last place of work. In 1983 his health affected his ability to work, therefore had to stop. After Dad stopped working he took the opportunity to take the family on many trips to Ontario and Alberta. Visiting family and creating great memories. There were also many weekends that last minute decisions would be made to go camping. Children would ask if we could go, and Dad would ask the same of Mom – as soon as Mom said yes, Dad and the children packed everything up in a hurry and off we went. Dad was just as excited as the children were. During the time in Plum Coulee Dad and Mom joined the Sommerfeld Church where Dad contributed as a Song Leader. After a number of years Dad had to step down due to his health. Dad’s health journey was hard, but always had his wife beside him providing support and encouragement. Dad was able to find great joy in his passion of woodworking. He built many pieces of furniture (like china cabinets and desks) and other wood projects. Even the past 2 years, Dad still loved the hobby. He had a difficult time doing it on his own and found support from Mom. His memory and coordination made it difficult to continue, but still too difficult for him to give it up completely. As Mom said, God decided to take Dad home rather than having him to make the difficult decision to let it go. Dad was strong in his faith, dedicating many hours praying to his Heavenly Father. It was important to Dad to build strength in his faith to prepare himself for his journey home. On Wednesday, April 20th Mom took Dad to the hospital. The morning of April 22nd, Dad went to rest in his eternal home. No more suffering. He is now singing with the angels, in perfect health, and at peace. We will miss you deeply! We love you! Bye for now.
