February 15, 1936 - April 18, 2026
It is with deep sadness that the family announces the passing of Fred, peacefully on April 18th, 2026, at Boyne Lodge. He has gone to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
Fred was born on February 15th, 1936, in Ponoka, Alberta. He grew up on the family farm in Ponoka and later in Chilliwack, B.C. He was the 4th child, of the family of six, of Johann & Helene Krause. He was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran Church. After high school graduation he worked in construction. Then he moved to Winnipeg where he attended Red River Community College, taking a Radio and T.V. Course. He gave up working in that field and became a salesman for Held's Heating. He married Peggy Buschau, the love of his life, on August 6th, 1960. They briefly lived in Winnipeg and later moved to Morden, where they made their home.
Fred was predeceased earlier this year by his beloved wife, Peggy Krause. He is lovingly remembered by his son, Brent Krause of Winkler, and his daughter, Tracey Krause and her husband Rob Hamm of Morden. He will also be dearly missed by his grandchildren, Cassidy Krause of Morden and Nik Krause of Toronto. Fred is survived by his brother, Raymond and his wife Janet, and his sister, Linda and her husband Oscar, as well as many extended family members and dear friends. He was also predeceased by his parents, his sister Irma, and his brothers Emil and Eric.
Fred had a strong faith in God, from whom he drew comfort and inner strength throughout his life. He was a devoted member of Christ Lutheran Church in Morden, serving in many capacities as well as recording secretary for more than 35 years. He also served on the National Council of the Canadian Association of Lutheran Congregations.
Fred enjoyed family vacations, camping across Canada and the US with many trips to B.C. After the family left home, travelling with Peggy all over the globe gave him a great deal of enjoyment. The last time they counted, they had visited 65 countries on 6 continents.
Fred lived a full, rich life. He was a devoted Husband and father who loved his family dearly. His Grandchildren, Nik and Cassie were a special blessing. He always looked forward to spending time with them, playing games and showing great interest in their lives. His patience, optimism, encouragement, and positive attitude will be missed by all.
In his earlier years he loved to play chess, table tennis, golf, and always looked forward to those fishing trips. He was a real "handy man" around the house, helping with gardening and cooking. His soups and hot chili were in great demand. He was also an avid reader, solver of sudoku puzzles, and a great scrabble player.
Fred was a community minded man, he believed it was important to "give back" to his community. He volunteered a great deal and was especially in demand if the job involved selling something. His community involvement includes President and Deputy governor of the Morden Kinsmen Club, achieving a Lifetime membership. The club helped to provide and maintain recreational facilities for Morden's children. He was also President of the Chamber of Commerce, Chairman of the Corn and Apple Festival and then he oversaw putting up the main stage tent for 25 years. Fred touched the hearts of many with a generous, caring, and humorous spirit. He always looked for the best in others. When he received the diagnosis of COPD, he faced it with Dignity.
Family and friends are invited to attend Fred's farewell. The Celebration of Life Service will be held on Saturday, April 25th, at 2 pm, at the Chapel on the Hill at Wiebe Funeral Home in Morden, M.B. The burial will follow the service at Chapel Cemetery. Everyone is Invited to Tracey and Rob's home at 17 Alexandria Bay, Morden, afterwards. In lieu of flowers if desired, donations may be made in Fred's memory to: Boundary Trail Health Centre Foundation, Box 2080, Winkler, MB, R6W 1H8.
