Gary was born in Cando, ND on May 21, 1951 to Thor “Bobby” and Helen “Peggy” (Clark) Shock. He attended school in Cando, ND. After high school, he attended Lake Region Junior College in Devils Lake, ND where he received his Associates Degree in Accounting. Gary married the love of his life, Lynette Heldt on March 9, 1973 in Cando, ND where they began their life together and raised their two children, Traci and Travis “TJ”.
Gary loved farming and was a farmer for most of his life, taking over his own farm in the late 1980’s. Even after retirement he was passionate about staying involved in the farming community. Before starting his career in farming, he spent a few years working at the family Mobil station delivering fuel to local farmers and communities. He served on the Cando City Council for several years and was a member of the BTR Elevator board. He greatly enjoyed following the activities of his grandchildren and was always up for an adventure with his family. He enjoyed trips to Medora, Minneapolis, camping, and most recently a road trip to Tennessee.
He is survived by his children Traci (Jason) Lura and Travis “TJ” (Alexis) Shock; Brother Don (Linda) Shock; Sisters-in-law Cheryl (Terry) Kulik and Pat (Steve) Cook; Granddaughters Cassy, Baylee, and Jaedyn; He was preceded in death by his wife, Lynette, his mother and father, brothers Allen Shock and Joel Shock, his grandparents, and his mother and father-in-law.
