George was born April 16, 1934, at Waskada, Manitoba and moved to the farm at Elm Creek when he was 7 months old. He played hockey and curled but always finding time for his sweetheart, Lorraine McCrea and in 1964 they were married. Living all his life on the Tibbett Farm, he got his wish, he never had to leave. In 1971, George was seen driving the little yellow bus, and 42 years later he was known for the longest school bus driver for the Midland School District.
After losing Lorraine in 2017, George carried on with a heavy heart but always finding time for his friends and family. George could be seen driving his truck never in a hurry to get anywhere. He always had time for anyone to visit and visit he did! Just ask Levi and Bob. Everyone knew George, and George knew everyone.
George is survived by daughter Donna (Mike), their children Ben and Julia, and Colleen. His sisters Jean (Don), Norma (Vic) and Marg, his sister-in-law Donalda Tibbett, his brother-in-law Don McCrea (Sharlene), several nieces, nephews, and cousins. George will be dearly missed by Levi and Margaret Hofer, their family, and the Wingham Colony. Everyone who enjoyed a visit with George will miss his time he so generously gave them.
George was pre-deceased by his parents Orval (Tippy) and Madge Tibbett; Lorraine’s parents Vince and Isa McCrea. His brothers, Ross (Anna) and Roy; sister-in-law Jean (Stewart) McIntyre and Lynn McCrea and bother-in-law Gerald Lehmann.
The family wish to thank the Doctors and Nurses at Portage District General Hospital for their kind compassionate care. We would also like to thank the family and friends for the flowers, food, and visits as well as Wingham Colony for the lunch following George’s service.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Elm Creek Cemetery.
