Gladys passed peacefully on February 26, 2025, in Carman with her family by her side.
Beloved wife of Barry. Loving mom to Dorothy (Russ) and John. Proud grandma of Ian, Allie and Katie. Great grandma to Hattie, Emmett, Owen, Isla, Arthur, Tully and Baby due April 2025. Loving aunt to Christine McKinnon and Barry Harrison. Gladys will be especially missed by her cousin Betty Manning. Predeceased by her sister in law Gail Harrison.
Gladys was born to Sam and Dorothy Rowe on a farm southwest of Belmont, MB. She lost her mother at a very young age and was raised by her dad and grandparents. She lived on the family farm until her dad retired and moved into town. Gladys ran the local insurance office in Belmont.
Gladys met her husband Barry when his Manitoba Hydro Rural Electrification crew came through Belmont. Barry never forgot that special girl from Belmont. Several years later Barry - by that time an independent farmer - proposed marriage. The new family moved to their farm north of Graysville in the St Daniel district. Gladys and Barry were devoted to each other and were very much the centre of each other's worlds.
Gladys loved providing childcare for three local families (The Unrau, Bell and McIntosh families)
Her favourite activities were bowling, being outside in the garden, feeding birds, caring for various pets especially cats. She was a huge fan of the Blue Jays and the Jets. In later years she enjoyed listening to music, catching up with friends on social media and keeping up with family updates. Mom really enjoyed going out to eat. Her favourites were going for ice cream, trips to Boston Pizza, Chicken Chef takeout and a recently developed love of sushi.
A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date when warmer weather is here.
