Harriet D. Prigge Scharmer, 86 of Drayton, North Dakota passed away peacefully August 24, 2024, after a long battle with dementia at Valley Senior Living on 42nd, Hearthstone, Grand Forks, North Dakota. The family wants to express their sincere appreciation for the staff at Valley Senior Living for all their care given to mother.
Harriet Doris was born on July 28, 1938, to Harold and Doris Maurstad in Drayton, North Dakota. Harriet resided in Drayton where she met and married John Prigge, November 9, 1958. Unfortunately, Harriet lost John due to a fatal accident in 1990. Larry Scharmer, of Drayton lost his wife in 1993 also due to an accident. In 1994, Harriet and Larry started spending time together and married January 7, 1995. Harriet and Larry spent twenty-five years with summers at the farm east of Drayton or Lake of the Woods and winters in Arcadia, FL. After twenty great years of marriage dementia started affecting Harriet, sadly it got to the point that professional assistance was needed to keep Harriet safe. Harriet and John raised three children. Harriet worked at the Drayton Hospital as a young woman caring for patients and several occupations within the Drayton community. Harriet’s children were beneficiaries of Harriet’s care and love. She carried her desire to care for people into the memory care facility, often trying to help other residents.
Harriet was a member of the Drayton Lutheran Church and was the oldest member of the church.
Harriet is survived by her three children: John (Kelly) Prigge, Moorhead, MN; Mark (Tracie) Prigge, Drayton, ND; Janelle (Dean) Woinarowicz, Grafton, ND; husband, Larry Scharmer, Drayton, ND; grandchildren: Samantha Good, Kaylene Eckert, Gaven Prigge, Jaden Prigge, Nicole Dunn, Lexie Woinarowicz, Landon Woinarowicz; six great grandchildren; step children: Kelly (Bronson) Seymour, Spirit Lake, IA; Kari (Jason) Woinarowicz, Drayton, ND; three step grandchildren; five step great grandchildren; and sister, Donna Mundy. Numerous nieces and nephews also survive. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband John, brother Gordon Maurstad, sister Vivian Emanuelson and several brothers and sisters in-law.
Funeral services will be Friday, August 30, 2024 at 2:00 P.M. at the Drayton Lutheran Church, Drayton, ND. Visitation will be for one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment will be at the Drayton City Cemetery, Drayton, ND.
