Hazel was born August 13, 1934, in Grafton, ND, to Clarence and Ila (Rutherford) Evanson in Grafton, ND. She grew up on a farm near Drayton, ND and graduated from Drayton High School. She then attended Mayville State University and received her teaching degree. Her first teaching job was in the Neche, ND, area where she met the love of her life Kenneth Bartron. They were married on September 6, 1956, in Grafton, North Dakota. After their marriage she worked as a nurse’s aide at the Pembina County Memorial Hospital in Cavalier and as a medicine aide at the Pioneer Rest Home in Bathgate.
Hazel enjoyed camping, bonfires, sewing, quilting, and making tie blankets. She loved spending time with her family especially with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren whom she loved dearly. She was a member of the Fargo and Moorhead Eastern Star, Gainer-McAndrews American Legion Auxiliary, and the Trinity United Methodist Church in Cavalier.
She is survived by her children: Janis (Duane) Wileman, Neche, ND; Nancy (Robert) Maxwell, Hamilton, ND; and Lori Tozer, Grand Forks, ND; son-in-law, John Tozer, Cavalier, ND; grandchildren: Jesse Wileman, Laura (Kevin) Ault, Heather (Adam) Halvorson, Andrea (Matt) Daddino; Andrew Maxwell, Sarah (Brian) Fish, Brandi Veer (Andrew Anderson), Jennifer Maxwell (Chance Hartz); Ashley Tozer (Johnnie Simmons), Heidi (Kollin) Mundis, Morgan Tozer (D’Von Vanderbilt), Jay Tozer; great-grandchildren: Jade, Jordyn, Abby, Johnny, Aiden, Caleb, Joshua, Rylie, Norah, Mylo, Owen, Sawyer, Jeffrey, Emery, Izabella, Tyree, Zendaya, and Xyair; sister, Inez (Carl) Kujath; sister-in-law, Dorothy Evanson; and brother-in-law, Wesley (Harryette) Bartron.
She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Kenneth; son, Jay; parents; infant twin brothers; and brothers, Dennis and Erlan.
