Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, August 27, 2022 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Olaf Lutheran Church, Devils Lake with burial in the Devils Lake Cemetery.
Hazel Frances Schlieve, daughter of Robert Lee and Mary E. (Jones) Schlieve was born on March 10, 1936 at Minnewaukan ND. She grew up in the Warwick area and graduated from Warwick High School.
Hazel was united in marriage to Gerald N. Ralston on July 15, 1954 in Crookston, MN. They established their home in Devils Lake where they lived, worked, and raised their family. Hazel first and foremost was a devoted wife and loving mother. Gerald died on May 1, 1990. She continued to call Devils Lake home and committed herself to her family and the community.
Hazel did work at White Drug as a cashier, sales clerk and eventually was the Gift Department Manager. She had such a talent for design and presentation with gifts and Hallmark cards. After she retired from White Drug, she worked for a time at the Fashion Boutique, again using her talents in fashion and design. She also was the “Avon Lady” for many years. Hazel’s skills were evident in her gardening, canning, baking, cooking and sewing. She was never idle. In her spare time, she enjoyed Bingo, card games and had an extensive collection of chickens, angels and Avon decanters. She also volunteered many hours at the Devils Lake Senior Center and received several certificates and awards for her volunteerism.
Hazel was a member of St. Olaf Lutheran Church and WELCA and enjoyed membership in the Eagles Auxiliary, Elks, and the VFW Auxiliary.
Hazel loved her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren with all her heart. They were her pride and joy. She felt blessed to have so many siblings, nieces and nephews in her life. She treasured many friends throughout the years.
Hazel is survived by her children Richard A. Ralston, Devils Lake, Gerald “Jary” (Denny) Ralston Jr., Portland OR, Ronald V. (Tanya) Ralston, Devils Lake and Karen A. (Jamie) Woods, Lenoir NC; grandson Mick Ralston, Fargo ND; granddaughter Angelina Ralston, Devils Lake; great granddaughters Lacey and Lexy Ralston also of Devils Lake; brother Donald (Lola) Schlieve, Devils Lake and many nieces, nephews and their families.
She was preceded in death by her parents, beloved husband Gerald, daughter-in-law Carmen Ralston, brothers Lyle, Leonard “Bud”, Tilford “Tillie” and Arthur Schlieve, sisters Mabel Brown and Millie Johnson.
