In March 1948 at the age of 14, Helen accepted the Lord as her personal Savior at the Rose Farm church. Her faith in Christ and His promises gave her much joy and sustained her throughout life. She was baptized May 21, 1948 and attended Bible School in Altona, MB for 2 years.
George and Helen fell in love and married on Sept. 30, 1951. Their first home was on the family farm in the Rose Farm District near Horndean, MB. She was a hard working multitasker on the farm working alongside George. They had 3 children Diana (stillborn), Yvonne and Robert. They moved to Morden in 1966 where Helen worked full time at Tabor Home as an excellent nurses aide for 27 years. Among her many gifts, she lovingly cared for many including George in his later years. Her Bible was underlined profusely, keeping many journals and prayer requests. She would go back and write “thank you God” when answered. One of her favorite verses was “Show me your ways, Lord, teach me your paths. Guide me in your truth and teach me, for you are God my Savior, and my hope is in you all day long”. Psalms 25:4-5. She loved trips, craft stores, tea houses, sewing, puzzles, and going for coffee. George and Helen attended countless fundraisers, enjoyed speakers and music events. Her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren were loved and spoiled. We were all blessed by her gift of giving and loving generous heart. Thank you Mom, Grandma and Great-Grandma for the legacy of faith and love you have passed on to us all, it is priceless. George and Helen’s favorite verse found in Psalm 100:5 “For the Lord is good and His love endures forever; His faithfulness continues through all generations.” When the years of work and life ravaged her body and illnesses crept up, she would quote part of Isaiah 49:16 “My name is written on the palm of His hands”. A symbol of Gods’ love for her and those she loved. Thanks to all staff at Tabor Home that took such good care of Mom including the precious “Walk of Honor” after her passing. Thank you to Wiebe Funeral Homes and Abe Giesbrecht for their compassionate care.
