(née Thiessen)
January 11, 1946 - April 17, 2026
Passed away peacefully on April 17, 2026, surrounded by her loving family at Boundary Trails Hospital.
Lena was born in Mexico and immigrated to Winkler, Manitoba, in 1952. She was raised on the south side of Winkler, where she attended school, helped care for her younger siblings, and worked various jobs to support her family. As she stepped into adulthood, a chance moment—riding shotgun in a two-tone 1951 Mercury with a foxtail whip antenna—would unknowingly begin a lifelong journey alongside Garry.
Lena was the devoted wife of Garry for 62 wonderful years. Together, they built a life grounded in love, hard work, and deep family values while raising their two sons, Bill and Mel on the farm northeast of Darlingford. Lena was truly the heart of the farm—operating equipment, tending livestock, and managing the many day-to-day demands—while also creating a home filled with warmth and generosity. She gardened, canned, and prepared food with care, ensuring her family and anyone who found their way down the lane was always well fed and welcomed.
Her door was always open. Whether at the farm or later at their home on Birchwood Drive in Morden, where Lena and Garry retired in 2001, she welcomed family, friends, neighbours, and even strangers with a hot meal, fresh coffee, and genuine kindness. Over the years, Lena also worked outside the home, sharing her strong work ethic and friendly spirit at the Motor Inn, the Morden Recreation Complex, SAAN Store, and later at Walmart, where she completed her career in fashion.
Lena’s nurturing nature and radiant smile shone brightest in the presence of her six grandsons, her great-grandchild, and her stepchildren. She spoke of her family with immense pride, never missing an opportunity to share their stories. In return, they cherished her deeply—drawn to her famous chocolate cake, her warm hugs, and her sense of humor that could both delight and gently tease.
Lena will be remembered for her loving embrace, boundless generosity, unwavering devotion to family, and the many lives she touched with her kindness. Her legacy lives on in the hearts of all who knew and loved her.
She is now reunited in heaven with her beloved son, Bill Hunt, her parents, and her two sisters—embraced once more in a love that time and loss could never diminish.
A celebration of Lena’s life will be held Saturday, May 2, 2026 at 12:00PM,
