February 18, 1952 - February 9, 2025
Henry Saunders was born on February 18, 1952 in Winnipeg, Manitoba to Douglas and Marjorie (Margie) Saunders. He was the oldest of 3 siblings, Christopher and Stella, and spoke fondly of his family, particularly his mother. Henry lived in many places before moving to Altona. Henry often spoke about living in Altona and his time working at Blue Sky Opportunities. Henry moved into Crocus Manor in Winkler in 2010 to enjoy his retirement years. He enjoyed going to the Gateway senior program and would often say “no more work” with his signature Henry shrug. Henry’s last move was to Manitou.
Henry loved to tease and joke around with everyone. He could light up with the room with his one liners and his chuckle. He quite enjoyed his chocolate donuts (“I love it!”) and going for a drive to pick one up. Often on these drives, he conveniently “forgot” his wallet. He was quite the charmer and would have many compliments to pay to anyone he was chatting with ranging from your boots to your car- he sure knew how to work the room in his favor. Henry had a soft heart particularly for his housemates and he prided himself in being the “nice guy”. He always wanted to make sure that everyone was welcome when they came to his home.
Henry enjoyed spending his time painting/coloring, crafting, puzzling, listening to music, watching movies, and tending to his birds. He had a bird feeder outside his living room window that he took on as a project to make sure all the neighborhood birds stayed fed. The John Wayne classics and James Bond movies were often on repeat – so much so that he referred to himself to some as “James Bond 007”. Henry was quite the artist and it was a true honor when he chose a signed picture from his stack that he specifically made for you. Music was also important to Henry, with some of his favorite CD’s being Johnny Cash and Dolly Parton.
Henry was known by and made an impression on the community. He will be greatly missed by many,
Rest in Peace Henry.
