Irene Schmidt – A Life of Heart, Soul & Rock ‘n’ Roll
With an unstoppable spirit, a deep love for people, and a passion for music, words, and big ideas, Irene Schmidt embraced life with fierce conviction and boundless generosity. She was a seeker of truth, a creator of community, and a dreamer who always saw potential in the ordinary. Irene passed peacefully on March 6, 2025, now reunited with her beloved Lothar.
She is survived by her children, Jeff (and his wife, Anna) and Jenny; her grandchildren, Jael, Jette, Josh, and Brigit; her brothers Waldemar, Harold, and Orlando; her sisters Irmie and Viola; her stepmother Lottie Redekopp; and many nieces, nephews, and dear friends.
A public Celebration of Life will be held Saturday, March 29, at 1:30 PM at Northlands Parkway Collegiate. All are welcome, and in honour of Irene’s iconic red glasses, attendees are encouraged to wear chunky red frames—or a flourish of red.
