James Albert (Jim) Mackenzie
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our father on Friday, March 21, 2025 in Carman, Manitoba. Jim was born on May 1, 1950 in Carman, MB and will be lovingly remembered by his daughters, Sherri (Paul) and Carla (Donnell). Jim was predeceased by his wife Francis Dale (Downs). He was the youngest of two children, born to Robert John (Jack) and Annie Margaret Iona (Howie). Jim was predeceased by his sister, Elizabeth Ann.
Jim worked at the Department of Highways until his retirement but also helped his wife, Francis with her catering business. After retirement he enjoyed many years doing grounds keeping at the Carman Golf Course.
Jim loved doing yardwork and gardening and being outdoors working in his perennial bed. He appreciated bird watching with the many attractants he setup in the yard. He would visit many garden centers and farmers markets throughout the spring and summer each year.
He had many travels around the world and was a sunworshipper. He had an appreciation for good food and although he liked to cook and entertain friends, he did like going out regularly for fine dining experiences. One of his favorite venues was Infernos Bistro.
Jim liked cruising around in his convertible in the summer months for which he had his own custom license plate “MEX” which was the nickname that most of his close friends would call him and always had a Coke in-hand.
Jim was very active and involved in various activities with some of his favorites being golf, curling and cribbage. He liked watching various sports and cheering on the local teams. He was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion for 50+ years and enjoyed attending their social events.
The family would like to thank friends for their support during this difficult time.
As per Jim’s wishes, cremation has taken place and a Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday April 12, 2025 at 2:00 pm at the Royal Canadian Legion, 28 1st Street NW, Carman, MB. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Royal Canadian Legion, Carman Branch 18.
