April 24, 1941 - May 22, 2025
John Pankratz passed away peacefully on May 22, 2025, at the Health Sciences Centre with his family by his side. He was born in Schoenenberg UKR on April 24, 1941. John, along with his mother and brother Sigfried arrived in Canada on January 21, 1949. He grew up with his stepfather, his mother and his brother on the family farm outside Morden, Manitoba.
After graduating from MCI in Gretna Manitoba, he went on to become a teacher. On August 6, 1966, John married Patricia Schafer. Through the years he received his Bachelors of Education and Baccalaureate degrees. John taught school in Northern Alberta, Saskatchewan, Arizona, (Principal at Hopi Mission School), Zambia (David Livingston Teacher Training College) and in Manitoba (Garden Valley School Division).
He is survived by his wife Patricia (nee Schafer), sons Ivan (Fedra) and Bruce (Jaime), daughters Sonia (Dion), Celina (Ben), nine grandchildren, sister-in-law Alma Pankratz and numerous nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by his parents David Pankratz and Helene Rempel and his stepfather John Rempel, brother Sigfried Pankratz and son-in-law Maurice Denechezhe.

A celebration of John’s life will be held at Fort Garry Mennonite Brethren Church in Winnipeg (1771 Pembina Highway) on June 5 at 7:00 pm.
