September 8, 1961 – July 9, 2025
John Klassen, age 63, unexpectedly passed away on July 9, 2025, due to a motorcycle accident. He was born to George & Mary Klassen on September 8, 1961. John attended school in Gnadenthal until the age 10 and continued at Winkler Elementary School when the family moved to Winkler in 1972, and later graduated from Garden Valley Collegiate in 1980. John was baptized upon confession of his faith in the Grace Church on June 24, 1979.
A dedicated and hardworking man, John had a true farmer’s heart. Over the years, he held a variety of farm related jobs at Southern MB Potato, Coulee Agro, Simplot, PM Elias, Integra, Essen Transport and most recently Arty’s Air.
John enjoyed activities such as curling, bowling, golfing and fishing. The last few years he took up cooking and became known for bringing potato salad or baked beans to family gatherings, even making a special spicy batch of beans for his youngest niece’s wedding. One of John’s favorite winter pastimes was cheering on the Winkler Flyers with his kids.
John will be remembered for his generosity and willingness to give a helping hand. He showed this by cooking for his mom and kids, picking up the tab at the restaurant or lending his truck to his children. John excelled at building connections and maintaining relationships with anyone he crossed paths with. If he knew when your birthday was, he was likely one of the first to send out a birthday greeting.
He is survived by his son Derrick and wife Amy and granddaughter Gabrielle, daughter Shevaun and husband Justin Fehr, daughter Tracy and husband Brodie Friesen, daughter Nicole and husband Ronny Guenther. Also survived by his mother, Margaret Klassen, brother Albert (Flash) and wife Margaret, sister Irene, brother Henry (Hank), brother Vic and wife Elvira, sisters Edna and Jennifer, plus many nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his mom in November 1986, dad in August 1995, a brother in infancy, sister-in-law Carol, numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.
Special thanks to the EMS team and medical staff at Boundary Trails Hospital.
