January 21,1935 – February 22, 2026
Katie (Kae) Lambrecht (nee Penner) passed away peacefully at Boundary Trails Health Center on February 22, 2026 at 91 years of age.
She leaves to mourn her daughter Jeannie (Howard) Pauls, grandsons Joel (Cori) and Jordan and her son Jim (Kelly), granddaughters Ashley, Natalie (Frank) Banman, Claudia, Monica, and great-grandchildren Keenen, Dominick, Bellamy, and Willa.
She was predeceased by her husband Edward, her son William, parents Peter and Tina Penner, six brothers Peter, George, Jake, John, David, Leonard and one sister Elizabeth (Betty).
Katie was born January 21, 1935 at home on the family farm in the RM of Roland. The family relocated to a farm near Manitou where she attended school. As she grew up and gained her independence she moved to Winnipeg together with her sister Betty and they found employment at a coffee packing company. They each began a courtship with farming brothers Ed and Mel Lambrecht from the Pearce district south of Darlingford and went on to marry in a double wedding in 1958. The two couples farmed together until their growing families required their own space in the early 1970s. She enjoyed farming, operating tractors with various implements and driving grain trucks at harvest. After moving off the farm to Morden in the early 1980s she was employed by Homecare Services and Salem Home, and also enjoyed volunteering at the Morden Thrift Shop. Together with Ed they spent a year residing and working in a Group Home at Rankin Inlet, NWT. In 2019 they moved to the Buhler Active Living Center where she resided until being hospitalized February 6, 2026.
She loved gardening, growing and arranging flowers, long hikes, rock collecting, and picking saskatoons in the Pembina Valley. She also enjoyed deer hunting for many years and still holds the title of the family's biggest buck taken.
Her love of music kept her busy singing and playing piano for church services, weddings, etc and played accordion in various musical groups. Her greatest joy was her growing family and she treasured her precious grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Her faith kept her fearless and she always managed to stay positive looking at the bright side of any situation. Her battles with various cancers were fought and won for decades but on her 91st birthday she felt it was time to go home. And so that chapter of her story is very short. Her smiling face, warmth and kindness will be greatly missed by her family, friends and all that had the good fortune to have known her.
Thank you to the residents and staff at BALC for providing comfort and caring friendships.
Thank you to Homecare Services and attendants, medical staff at HSC, Menzies Medical Center and BTHC for providing compassionate care over the years and these past few weeks, and a special thank you to Dr Peters at HSC for many years of expertise ensuring the quality and fullness of life she enjoyed.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made in Kae's memory to Pembina Valley Bible Camp.
