Our beloved mother passed away peacefully, at home on Tuesday, December 10, 2024 at the age of 95.
Left to cherish her memory are her son‘s Brent (Judi), Gregory and daughter Valerie (Don), grandchildren Bree, Jessica, Drew, David, Heather, Katrina and Gabi and five great grandchildren, sister Lorene and many nieces and nephews she held dear.
Mom was born in 1929 in Winkler Manitoba to Henri and Aganetha Warkentin. She began her school years in Winkler, and then Burwalde by the Dead Horse Creek, El Dorado and Stephenfield. In 1947, at the age of 17, she took a job as a permit teacher in Wigton, near Glenora Manitoba. This was a most memorable year and she shared many stories that became visual to us. Mom met the love of her life that year, they married five years later.
In the early days of computing (1952) she worked for IBM, programming on key punch cards. It was an exciting time to be a pioneer of this of new technology. One of the highlights of her life was selling red salmon. She was the distributor in Manitoba for Great Glacier Salmon and loved both the bookkeeping and sales. Mom loved to play word games, especially Scrabble and crosswords; she was a keen cribbage player as well. In 1992 mom and dad retired and moved to La Salle Manitoba. She was full of joy with a servant’s heart. As her faith in God grew, she enjoyed Bible Study, choir, teaching Sunday school and the VBS program. She also baked the best pies that anyone could dream of. She was an extraordinary baker and for someone who didn’t eat meat, she sure knew how to cook it. Mom was a pleasure to be with. She touched many lives around her.
A celebration of life service will take place on Tuesday, December 17, 2024 at 2 PM at La Salle Community Fellowship Church.
