
Leslie was born June 16, 1941 in Stephen, MN to the late Lester and Helen (Flaten) Aasand. Leslie grew up and attended country school in Fork Township and high school later in Argyle, MN, graduating in 1959. He then attended vocational school in Thief River Falls, MN. Leslie married Elizabeth Poole on February 21, 1962. Together they had five children: Jerry, Terry, Leslie II, Robert, and Jason.
Leslie worked at different jobs while in Minnesota. He and Liz moved Grafton where he worked for Wally’s Grocery for 25 years. He began working at the Life Skills and Transition Center in Central Receiving for 23 years, retiring in 2013. He also worked for farmers part time, drove semi for Frank McCann and Adrian Gerszewski. Leslie spent 17 years tending to the grounds at Heritage Village in Grafton, which brought him great joy.
He had an endless interest in classic cars, especially Corvettes, of which he owns a 1993 Chevrolet Corvette Convertible. He enjoyed showing pictures. On February 4, 2012, Leslie married Verna Robinson Sherek. They spent 15 wonderful years together. They took in a lot of traveling during their time together.
Leslie is survived by his wife Verna Aasand, Grafton, ND; his children: Jerry (Jeanne) Aasand, Devils Lake, ND, Terry (Jennie) Aasand, Mandan, ND, Leslie II “Chip” (Shelley) Aasand, Erskine, MN, Robert (Giesla) Aasand, Hinesville, GA, and Jason (Andrea) Aasand, Lynnfield, MA; step daughter: Jana (Lee) Bell, Grand Forks, ND; grandchildren: Garrett (Billie) Aasand, Emily (Patrick) Zangari, Nick Aasand, Grant (Jenny) Aasand, Miranda (Matt) Wolski, Lasen Aasand, Layne Aasand, Colby Aasand, Morgan Aasand, and Brandi Aasand; step grandchildren: Skylar and Wyatt Bell; six great grandchildren; Abel, Octavia, McKayla, McKenzie, Reed, and Charlie; siblings: Bonnie McMartin, Inez Riendeau, and Harvey Dale Aasand, also several nephews survive. He was preceded in death by his parents, first wife Liz Aasand, brother-in-laws: Ron McMartin, Sr. and Wayne Lenhart, and nephew Steven Aasand.
Mass of Christian Burial will be Monday, April 3, 2023 at 2:00 p.m. at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church of Grafton. Visitation will be for one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment will be at the North Bigwood Cemetery of Argyle, MN, in the spring.
