It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Lorraine Henderson at the age of 77 years and 11 months.
Family
Lorraine is survived by her husband, Ron, and their three adult children: Alan and his wife, Sara, of South Jordan, Utah; Jennifer and her husband, Ryan, of Morden, Manitoba; and James of Morden, Manitoba.
She is also survived by six grandchildren: Jessica and Jenna Henderson, daughters of Alan; Justin Henderson, son of James; and Mathew, Radek, and Brooks Merasty, sons of Jennifer. She is also survived by two great-granddaughters.
Family and Early Life
Lorraine had five brothers: Gerry, Leo, Henry, Roland, and Normand. She is survived by Gerry and his wife, Jeanine; Roland and his wife, Donna; and Normand and his wife, Carmel.
Lorraine and her brothers grew up in Somerset, Manitoba, where her father owned several businesses, including the Lucky Dollar grocery store. As children, they helped support the family business by taking on a variety of responsibilities.
Friends and Lifestyle
Throughout her life, Lorraine was warm, social, and quick to make lasting friendships. Many of those cherished friendships were formed at Setting Lake, Manitoba, where she and Ronald, alongside close friends, built homes and embraced cottage life. There, their families raised their children together and shared many happy times filled with games, hunting, fishing, snowmobiling, gardening, and a love of the outdoors.
Gardening
Lorraine was especially known for her remarkable talent in gardening. During most of her married life in Thompson, Manitoba, and for 34 years at Setting Lake, Manitoba, she created beautiful flower beds and plentiful vegetable and fruit gardens, with impressive success despite the challenges of the northern climate.
In retirement, she continued this passion in Morden, where her yard was often recognized as Morden’s Yard of the Week.
Career
Lorraine had a varied and successful career. She began as a telephone operator with MTS and later worked as a teller at the Royal Bank.
She then spent 23 years at the Thompson RCMP detachment, where she served as a senior supervisor, overseeing more than 20+ employees.
Community Involvement and Volunteer Service
Alongside her busy career, Lorraine was active in curling and dedicated many years to volunteer service in her community. She supported Crime Stoppers for 6 years and was involved with Ducks Unlimited for 22 years, helping raise both awareness and funds for the organization.
Her final volunteer role was with the Pembina Valley Humane Society, where she cared deeply for the animals, especially the cats.
Words of Thanks
Lorraine’s family would like to express their heartfelt thanks to the health care teams at the Winnipeg Health Sciences Centre and Boundary Trails Health Centre for their compassionate care and support.
Lorraine was comfortable and well cared for in the newly built section of Boundary Trails Health Centre. Her family is deeply grateful that the Morden-Winkler area has access to excellent local health facilities.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Lorraine’s memory may be made to the Pembina Valley Humane Society or South Central Cancer Resource.
