April 4, 1934 – April 15, 2026
It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Margaret Edith Dunbar (née Harris), peacefully at the age of 92.
Margaret was a beloved mother, mother-in-law, Nana, and Great-Nana. She will be lovingly remembered by her daughter Mary-Jane, grandsons Kyle (Urmi) and Danny (Julia); son Douglas (Tania), grandson Dylan (Jasmine), and great-granddaughter Sailor-Mae; son Paul (Valerie), granddaughter Tiffany (Kyle), great-grandchildren Vanessa and Dean, and granddaughter Farrah (Brett); daughter Dianne (Curtis), grandchildren Megan (Alex), Melissa (Andrew), and Derek; son Robert, grandchildren Emma, Steven, Amanda, Sarah, and Michael; and daughter Julianne (Hamid), grandsons Mustapha and Amir. Margaret is also survived by many nieces and nephews whom she held dear.
She was predeceased by her husband Roy Dunbar; her parents Franklin C. Harris and Isabelle Harris; sisters Mary Harris and Cathrine Dagg; brother-in-law Fred Dagg; son-in-law Ronald Braun; great-granddaughter Daisy Dunbar; mother-in-law Mary-Jane Hockin; father-in-law Henry Dunbar; and stepfather-in-law Heber Hockin.
Margaret was born in Carman, Manitoba, on April 4, 1934. She married her true love, Roy Dunbar, on October 3, 1958, and together they shared 44 devoted years of marriage. Alongside Roy, Margaret owned and operated Harris Clothes Shop until 1979, all while raising their six children. She later worked as a Home Care Attendant until her retirement and generously volunteered her time with Meals on Wheels.
Family was at the heart of everything Margaret did. She took immense pride in her children and grandchildren and celebrated each of their accomplishments with genuine joy. Becoming a Great-Nana brought her tremendous happiness. Margaret will be remembered for her kindness, compassion, and unwavering willingness to help others. She found deep purpose in caring for Roy during his later years, as well as for her parents, and was comforted knowing they were always well cared for.
Margaret cherished time spent with family—and especially enjoyed visits from the family pets. She treasured her years at Boyne Towers, where she enjoyed friendships and participation in many activities. Her hobbies included knitting, playing Uno and Monopoly, completing puzzles, and watching curling and the Winnipeg Jets.
The family extends heartfelt gratitude to Dr. Afrose, the nurses and staff of Carman Memorial Hospital, for the compassionate and professional care provided to Mom, as well as the support shown to our family. Sincere thanks are also extended to Boyne Lodge for the exceptional care Mom received prior to her passing. Special appreciation is given to Marnie Fry and her team at “In Good Hands”, whose ongoing support to Mom and our family will never be forgotten, and to the caring staff of Carman Home Care.
If friends so desire, in lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Margaret’s memory to South Central Cancer Resource (400–34 Stephen Street, Morden, Manitoba R6M 2G3) or Kat’s Kritters Rescue (Box 18, Homewood, Manitoba R0G 0Y0; e-transfer: [email protected]).
A private service to be held at a later date with interment at the Carman Cemetery.
