Obituary of Margaretha Neufeld
Margaretha Neufeld, our dear mom and grandmother was released of her pain and taken into the arms of our Lord and Saviour at Boundary Trails Health Centre on July 20th at 1:30 pm.
She was born in Mexico on November 17th, 1966 to Isaak and Anna Rempel. Mom grew up in a small village with her many brothers and sisters, and often told us stories about getting into all kinds of trouble with her brother Jake.
Our mom had a relationship with God from an early age and on confession of her faith, she was baptized on May 19th, 1986 at an Old Colony Mennonite Church in Mexico. That same year, on August 3rd, Margaretha and Abram Neufeld were married. They spent the next 25 years together and had 9 children, and 18 grandchildren.
Our mom did not have an easy life in Mexico, and in 2003 she courageously moved herself and her 9 children to Canada for a better life. This was not an easy journey but Mom often said she would’ve done it all over again if she needed to. We just celebrated 22 years in Canada with her a week before she passed.
Mom loved to cook for others and would often host lunch for her family or her many friends. She made sure there were always fresh cookies in the fridge for her grandchildren, who she loved to look after and care for. Some of her favourite times included all of her kids coming over to visit, watching the birds and the flowers in the front yard, and if you really wanted to have the perfect day, maybe a little bit of maple walnut icecream.
She was also a very gifted seamstress, and made all of our clothing growing up. Then when we were grown she happily fixed any ripped clothes we brought to her, since her sewing skills didn’t seem to be generational.
In March of 2024, our sweet mom was diagnosed with cancer. She wanted to spend as much time on Earth as God would graciously give her, and she clung to prayer and her faith as she began cancer treatment. Although the treatment seemed to work at first, it did spread and after a hard battle and many doctors appointments, Mom decided to discontinue treatment and spend the remainder of her time on Earth with her family. At the age of 58 years, 8 months, and 3 days, with her family by her side, she went to be with the Lord.
Our mom was predeceased by both of her parents and her step mom, 1 sister, 2 children and her husband. She leaves to mourn 5 brothers and 5 sisters, 6 daughters, 3 sons, 4 sons-in-law, 2 daughters-in-law and 18 grandchildren.
Margaret (John) Wiebe and 4 children, Anna (Steve) Peters and 2 children, Lisa (Ben) Schmitt and 4 children, David, Eva (Cornie) Neufeld and 5 children, Mary, Klass (Emily) Neufeld and 1 child, Herman (Jamie) Neufeld and 2 children, and Justina.
Thank you to the Palliative Care Team at Boundary Trails Health Centre, the countless doctors, nurses, health care aides in the Medical ward that took such great care of our mom in her final days, and anyone who spent time visiting and in prayer with her. Thank you to Wiebe Funeral Homes for the compassionate care we have received as well.
We would like to leave you with a few verses, Psalm 73:26 says “My flesh and my heart may fail, but God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever.” And in Proverbs 31:31 we read “Honor her for all that her hands have done, and let her works bring praise at city gates”
We are assured that our mom is walking with the Lord, until we see her again.
