(nee Wieler)
November 29, 1938 - February 7, 2025
Maria Neufeld, nee Wieler, at the age of 86, went to be with her Saviour Jesus Christ on February 7th, at 9:00 pm.
Mom was born in Cuauhtemoc, Mexico, to Frank and Maria Wieler on November 29, 1938. She was baptized in 1956.
Mom was predeceased by her parents, several sisters and brothers and one granddaughter, Melissa, in 1980.
She is survived by her loving husband, Jacob, her children: Frank, Trudy, Susan (Cornie), Mary (Scott), Agatha, Jake, Helen (Neil), Pete (Diane), Eva (Henry), Henry (Jennifer), 30 grandchildren and 32 great-grandchildren.
Mom and Dad grew up in the same village of Blumenhoff Campo #103, with Mom on the north side of the school, and Dad on the south. Dad and Mom were married on July 8th, 1956, and 4 years later they had their first son. They had six more children, before making the trip to Ontario in 1971, and had two more children before moving to Manitoba in 1975. There they bought a six acre property in the village of Blumenort and had their last child in 1976. This is where they settled and called home for the next twenty-six years.
Mom enjoyed gardening, baking and cooking, reading her Bible, going for coffee with friends, having the grandkids for sleepovers and growing beautiful flowers; she was so proud of her huge yellow Dahlia’s and flowering Christmas cactus. She also made the best Haunz Broden and Bubbat! Her favourite colour was purple; her and Dad even painted the trim of their house in that colour! She also loved to pick up little knick-knacks from the thrift store to give as gifts to her grandkids. So many times, they would drop in unexpectedly, and we were able to share meals and visit together! We didn’t realize then how special those memories would be to us.
In 2001, Mom and Dad sold the farm to their son Henry, and moved to Altona. Mom worked for Circle of Friends where she helped those with special needs. She absolutely loved her job! In January of 2004, Mom and Dad were in a serious car accident which changed her life. She had a long stay in the hospital, multiple surgeries, and sadly had to quit her job. After many months of physiotherapy, she was able to walk again, but losing full use of her right arm. This was hard for her, as she was such an independent person.
In 2018, they moved to Winkler and in 2019, as Mom needed more care, and her Dementia progressed, they purchased a home with their daughter, Trudy and she became their care-giver until March of 2022. As her physical needs increased, the decision was made to move Mom into Salem Home. In the fall, Dad joined her at Salem, and they were once again neighbours, only now they were across the hall from each other! A big thank you to the many nurses and healthcare aids on Cottonwood who took such good care of our Mom!
A passage of Scripture that Mom mentioned a few times in the past was from Psalm 103:1-3 which reads:
“Bless the LORD, O my soul: and all that is within me, bless his holy name. Bless the LORD, O my soul, and forget not all his benefits: Who forgiveth all thine iniquities; who healeth all thy diseases.”
We will miss our Mama, but we know that she is in such a beautiful place! No more pain, no more tears! She can walk, and talk and sing again! We look forward to seeing you in Heaven!
’Til we meet again!
