(nee Lacroix)
July 29, 1950 - November 9, 2025
Marilyn was born on July 29, 1950 to Walter and Lucille Lacroix and was raised on the family farm east of Poplar Point, Manitoba. She went to school at Belcourt, a one room school near the farm and later attended high school at Portage Collegiate in Portage la Prairie and St. Paul’s High School in Elie.
Marilyn met Joe Mulligan in Lynn Lake, Manitoba in 1973 and they married in 1975. They raised two children together, Mike and Erin. The family lived in several towns and cities around Manitoba as Joe’s banking career advanced, later settling in Brandon for many years and moving to Morden in 2011.
Marilyn enjoyed working at a number of jobs over the years but at her core she was a mother and a grandmother. She loved her family deeply and was immensely proud of all of them. Marilyn attended countless theatre, music and dance performances and sports events over the years and, of course, her children and grandchildren were the stars of every show.
Marilyn was also a great music lover, especially The Beatles and especially George, the quiet one. But live music was always best. She and Joe attended the Brandon Folk Festival regularly for many years as well as the Back 40 in Morden. Simon and Garfunkel highlighted her early concert going years and the Rolling Stones and Jesse Cook in more recent times.
Marilyn enjoyed volunteering where she could and counted herself a proud member of the St. John’s perogie crew for many years as well as working at the church’s hamburger booth at Morden’s Corn and Apple Festival and teas and bake sales with the CWL.
Marilyn enjoyed the outdoors with many camping trips when the kids were younger and time spent at the lake in later years, especially sitting in the screen porch with a cup of coffee on a crisp fall morning. We also enjoyed a couple of trips to Disneyworld with the kids and later Maui, Scotland and Tucson/Palm Springs.
Marilyn was pre-deceased by her parents, Walter and Lucille, her brother Lou and sister-in-law Marlene, along with parents-in-law Helen and Jim Mulligan.
Marilyn endured a year long struggle with cancer before dying at home on November 9, 2025 surrounded and supported by the love of her family with her loving husband of 50 years at her side. She is survived by her husband Joe, children Mike (Megan) and Erin (Joel) Klassen, grandsons Joseph, Milo and Jude, brother Gene (Janet), sister Evelyn, brother Marc, nieces and nephews Dena, Christina, Neil and Liana, Stephanie, Paul and Matthew, Amy and Mitchell, her Auntie Annette and numerous cousins. She is also survived by brothers and sisters-in-law Dan (Ria), Mickey, Diane (Al), Bob (Kelley), Roy (Carrie) Ruth (Michel) and Barb (Shelley).
In lieu of flowers, if friends so desire, donations can be made to South Central Cancer Resource or the Boundary Trails Health Centre Foundation in Marilyn’s memory.
