Mass of Christian Burial will be held Monday, January 20, 2025, at 10:30 a.m. at the St. Boniface Catholic Church in Walhalla, ND. Visitation at the church one hour before the time of services.
Marlene Rae Backes was born August 11, 1937 at Langdon, ND to Louis and Elsie (Ring) Backes. She grew up on the family farm near Osnabrock, ND.
On November 26, 1955, she married Edward Stremick at St Boniface Catholic Church in Walhalla, ND. After their marriage they lived in Lakota and later moved to Walhalla. She worked at the Walhalla Public Library and the Pembilier Nursing Center. Marlene enjoyed singing, gardening, growing flowers, and taking care of her cats.
She is survived by her husband, Edward, children: Bob Stremick (Sue Laudert), Centennial, CO, Sandra Brandvold, Grand Forks, ND, Wayne (Nancy) Stremick, Annandale, MN, David Stremick, Grand Forks, ND, grandchildren: Brian Stremick, Stephanie Stremick (Elliot Zettas), Jennifer (Mike) Lipetzky, and Kirsten Yeado, great grandchildren: Caitlin Yeado-Soiseth (Jordan), Kylie Mitchell Lipetzky, McKenna Lipetzky, Ethan Lipetzky. siblings: Jolene (Marvin) Eudy, Marilyn (Dennis) Smith, Wayne (Sally) Backes, Bill (Karen) Backes, JoMary (Andy) Fischer, Kurt Backes.
Preceding her in death were her parents, siblings: Jeanette Wedwick, Dennis Backes, Lenore Newland, children: Barb Van Horn, Charles Stremick.
In lieu of flowers, memorials can be directed to Pembilier Nursing Center for their new van.
