Marlys I. Hiatt, age 70 of Grafton, ND and formerly Dunseith, ND, passed away peacefully, on Thursday, October 5, 2023, with her family by her side, at home.
Marlys Irene Hiatt was born February 12, 1953 in Bottineau, ND to the late Norman and Irene (Arends) Hiatt. She was raised on the family farm near the International Peace Gardens. Marlys attended school in Ackworth for grades first through third. She then attended Dunseith Public Schools graduating Salutatorian. In the fall of 1971, Marlys attended Sioux Falls Baptist College. She graduated with a social work degree. She began her career in Stutsman County and then spent 20+ years at Rolette County as a Child Welfare Social Worker. Marlys ended her career working for the Dunseith Public Schools, retiring in 2022.
Marlys was a member of the Dunseith Jesus Name Church of Apostolic Faith. She had a passion for reading, enjoyed traveling, and loved animals. She delighted in playing games with her family and friends, but her visits over a cup of coffee were her favorite.
Marlys is survived by her sisters: Lorie Hiatt, Grafton, ND, Vickie LaFountaine, Grafton, ND, Tina Peltier-Sinclair; brothers: Jim Hiatt, Adel, OR and Paul Peltier, Dunseith, ND; several nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews, and two great great nieces also survive.
Memorial services will be Friday, November 3, 2023 at 11:00 a.m. at the Dunseith Jesus Name Church of Apostolic Faith of Dunseith, ND. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church.
