(nee Abrams)
November 6, 1956 - February 3, 2026
Martha Neufeld (nee Abrams), age 69, passed away on February 3, 2026, surrounded by her family at Salem Home in Winkler. Martha was born in Altona on November 6, 1956, to Peter P. and Barbara (Dueck) Abrams. She grew up on a farm in Silberfeld, Manitoba, which was a couple of miles east of Altona, with her older siblings Pete, Mary and Sadie. Growing up, she loved farm life and helping her dad with all the daily chores. She went to elementary country school in Silberfeld, middle years school in Gretna and high school in Altona. She loved math and graduated with a Business Ed diploma. She was proud of the fact that she did grades one and two in a single year. On May 18, 1975, she was baptized upon the confession of her faith and enjoyed helping with the VBS program. After graduation she worked in administration for a few years until she transitioned to being a stay at home mom with her three children.
In 1988, she took a big step of faith and moved with her family to Roland, Manitoba and was part of buying the insurance and investment business there. It stretched her faith to believe that the commissions of the business would be enough to provide for the family. With her math skills from school, she was the bookkeeper of the business, as well as helping customers with general insurance needs. It was through this time that she learned that God can be trusted in the small things as well as the big things of our lives. Eventually, the insurance and investment business was sold. Martha always enjoyed spending time with family and friends, often going for walks or shopping with those closest to her. She also loved taking trips with her family; her favourite being a trip to Florida over Christmas when they were teenagers.
About 10 years ago, she was diagnosed with dementia, which has been a hard journey for her, especially giving up her independence and her beloved jeep. She took one last bucket list trip with her children and grandchildren to Mexico shortly after being diagnosed. Along the way, she has gotten to know many wonderful friends and caregivers at the Buhler Active Living Centre on the sixth floor and the second floor, The Villages, and really loved living in this facility. She was often known to be walking around and visiting with many staff and friends she made there. After two seizures, she was hospitalized for a few months and then spent the last four years under the wonderful care of the staff of Salem Home.
She will be greatly missed by her children and grandchildren Shonet & Ken Stoesz (Nate, Anthony and Olivia), Warren & Amy Neufeld (Kaelyn), and Jered and Melissa Neufeld (Bodie).
Her family would like to say a big thank you to all the wonderful caregivers that provided dignity, encouragement and support through the last ten years.
