Martha Unger (nee Goertzen) passed away April 26, 2025, at Boundary Trails Health Centre with her family by her side. She was 77 years old.
Martha was born August 2, 1947, along with her twin Tina, to Sarah and Jacob Goertzen of Chortitz, MB. She grew up and attended school with her 7 siblings in Chortitz. She was baptized in 1965. She married John Unger July 29, 1967.
Martha was known as a hard worker and very kind, she would do anything for anyone. Martha worked at Tupperware for many years, during which time she battled Crohn’s disease and spent months in hospital. Martha moved on to Salem Home where she enjoyed her role in housekeeping and client care at Salem Home. She loved baking for others and enjoyed serving at events in the Sommerfeld church. She was also known for her love for cleaning. Martha enjoyed music and going to gospel music festivals. During their evening coffee times at McDonald’s the group they met with would reflect on the Bible Study of the gospels they had all been working on, including focusing on praying for certain individuals weekly. Martha and John enjoyed traveling together, with one of the places they most frequented being Hawaii.
Martha is survived by her husband John, their daughter Wanda (Kevin) Thiessen, Brooke (Melchizedek) Animalla, Cole, Nikki (Gavin), daughter Colleen (Abe) Wall, Charise (Josef) Unruh, Alyssa (Elden) Loewen. Great grandchildren Hunter, and Gunner.
She is survived by her sisters Mary Warkentine, Anne (Mike) Willis, Helen (Doug) Asham , Betty Fehr, Tina (Abe) Friesen, and brother Jerry (Pam) Goertzen. Many nieces and nephews and their families. Predeceased by her brother Jake Goertzen and brother-in-law Art Warkentin.
She is survived by the Unger family: Anne (John) Martens, Harry Unger, Bill (Gail) Unger, Marge (Dietrich) Martens, Abe Unger (Diana), Kathy (Peter) Klassen, Mary (Abe) Elias, Doreen (Frank) Thiessen, Erna (Dennis) Thiessen, Esther (John Falk). Many nieces and nephews and their families.
The family is thankful for the care given to Martha and the family by the medical staff at Boundary Trails Health Centre and Health Sciences Centre.
