Martin the Magician,Martin’s Rib Night,Chef Martin
June 18th, 1959-July 15th,2024
With family at his side Martin passed away peacefully at Boundary Trails Hospital July
15th from heart surgery complications compounded by Pulmonary Arterial Hypertension.
Martin was born in Winnipeg, youngest of four children. Predeceased by his parents
Arthur and Ruth (Greenwood) and brother Graham.
Martin worked hard all his life, after running a group home with his loving wife and
best friend Marlene, he went on to achieve greatness as a chef and business owner.
From starting up the iconic Southwood Supper Club , running the Rennie Hotel, Niakwa
on the Hill, Rocks, Coop Café to executive chef of Buhler Active Living Centre. Martin
was a red seal chef that was passionate about mentoring many apprentice cooks over
the years.
Martin loved performing magic shows for generations of family, friends, customers and
classrooms, bringing smiles to adults and children a like.
Martin was a fun loving and dedicated family man. Celebrating 45 years of living
marriage and friendship with his wife Marlene( nee Schmidt). He was a proud father
and role model to their daughter Amanda-Jane (Meadow, Birch, Fox) and son and
daughter in law Riley and Nichelle (Titus , Winter). Taking every chance to spend time
with his family. Together as a family they all enjoyed fishing, time in the Whiteshell,
Blue Bombers games, drive-in movies and just spending time together. If he wasn’t in
the kitchen he was on the sidelines , cheering them on in all their activities.
Martin is also survived by his sisters Janet and Cathy, brother in law Dwayne and
sisters-in law Caroline(Schmidt) and Loretta (Evans), nieces , nephews, cousins and
great nieces and nephews. As well as family friends, the Cornells, the Mackenzies and Andrew.
He connected with so many people over the years and will be greatly missed by all that
were lucky enough to know him.
