They began their married life in Souris where Alan was the United Church minister. Mary worked in Souris High School library. While they were in Souris son Paul was born. In a few years they moved to Alberta and in Fairview, Anne arrived to make the family complete.
Mary and Alan covered a lot of country in their working lives; from Alberta to Regina, then to Winnipeg and Thompson. While they were in Thompson, Mary, with her family’s support, decided to complete her education. She attended the University of Winnipeg and after completing the necessary course and field work was granted the degree of Master of Mariage and Family Therapy.
Mary worked as a therapist at Nine Circles Community Health Centre until she retired. After retirement she had a private counselling service. She also taught courses with Red River Community College after retirement.
Mary and Alan moved to Carman from Winnipeg in 2005. Mary enjoyed sewing and doing needlework. She always read extensively both her own books and those on loan from the library. She enjoyed being a wife, mother, and grandmother!
Mary in survived by her husband Alan, her son Paul (Mary-Jayne), daughter Anne Freitas (Peter), two grandchildren Mark and Persephone. She is also survived by two brothers Ian (Charlene) of Boise, Idaho and Walter of Edmonton, AB. Mary was in poor health for the past few years and though we are saddened to have her leave us, her family, we know this is best for her.
Thanks to the staff at Boyne Lodge for their care and love for Mary during her time living at the Lodge. If friends wish. Memorial donations may be made to the Diabetes Society of Manitoba in Mary’s memory.
