Mary Friesen passed away peacefully with family by her side, at age 102.
Mary grew up on a farm near Rosenfeld, where she had a happy childhood in a Christian home. As a young adult, she went to work as a nurses aid at the Ninette Sanitorium. A few years later, she became a patient at the Sanitorium and battled TB for nearly six years. After that, Mary worked at the Winkler Clinic for over thirty years. As the manager she made every new doctor feel at home, and she knew every patient by name. When she retired, she continued to care for many people as a homecare worker as well as providing care for her father, mother and brother.
Mary was a cherished friend to many and a beloved aunt and great-aunt. She loved her family dearly and prayed for each family member by name every night.
Thank you to Dr. Eric Lane for caring for Mary for many years. Many thanks to the staff at Salem Personal Care Home, as well as Dr. Basson and Dr Brett for caring for her in the last few years.
She is predeceased by her father, David D. Friesen, mother Maria (Funk) Friesen, sisters Margaret Friesen, Helen (Friesen) Doell and Anne (Friesen) Doell, brothers Tony Friesen and David Friesen, brother-in-law John Doell and nephew-in-law Donald Hiebert. She is survived by sister-in-law Mary (Wiebe) Friesen and brother-in-law Bill Doell, eight nieces and nephews and many great and great-great nieces and nephews.
