Mary Gerbrandt (nee Wiebe)
1929 ~ 2022
Marie Gerbrandt (nee Wiebe), beloved wife of the late Bernhard (Barney) Gerbrandt, peacefully entered into the gates of heaven, at Salem Home, on Monday January 24,2022. No more pain, no more suffering, she's seeing Jesus face to face.
Mom was born to Abram and Maria Wiebe (nee Wall) on December 11,1929 in Colonsay, Saskatchewan. She was the 3rd youngest of nine children. Mom was baptized upon the confession of her faith on June 10,1957 in the Reinland Rudenerweider EMMC by Rev J.H. Friesen. Mom and Dad met while working Boese Foods. They were married on January 17,1953 in the St. Catherine’s Mennonite Brethren Church, Ontario. Later that year they moved to Winnipeg Manitoba. Later they moved to the farm one and half miles west of Rosetown (then Rosenort). They farmed there until 1969 at which time they moved into the village to take over ownership of the R.N.K. General store and then later adding Rosetown Discount to the business. Mom taught Sunday school, worked in the church library, served in the ladies’ fellowship, was deacon wife, was on the Women for M.C.C. and the conference LEX, secretary for the church council, volunteered at the Mennonitchen Post and volunteered at Salem Home for over 15 years-which she really enjoyed, even going to work in a snowstorm. Mom also worked as a secretary at Boese foods Ontario, Evergreen Ind Rosetown, she worked at Border Potato, Siemens Farms, and she babysat for Ray and Bev Friesen’s children-which she really enjoyed. Mom’s hobbies included quilting, crocheting, and knitting, hand stitching. Each of her grandchildren received a hand quilted baby blanket, many scarves were knitted for Operation Christmas Child and each of her great grandchildren received a scarf. She was still knitting until a few days before she passed away. In the 1990's Mom made a trip of a lifetime to Germany together with two of her siblings and their spouses. She was so thrilled to finally meet her only remaining auntie and many cousins. She left us a legacy of a love of reading, being a kind gentle, caring woman of faith. Mom had a compassionate heart for people.
Mom is survived by three sons and two daughters and their families: Ron and Linda and their children, Russel, Allison and Mike Friesen (William, Jack), Amanda and Madison Sawatzky (Ayden, Ruby, Lylah), Brian Gerbrandt, Patricia Gerbrandt, Calvin and Hilda-their children, Alyssa and Lincoln Neufeld (Alexander, Vivienne, Charlotte), Chris and Abe Giesbrecht their children, Travis and Lauren (Cadence, Keira, Oliver, Sage), Wes and Inga (Veronika).
On behalf of the family we would like to thank everyone for your compassion, prayers, cards, flowers, food, we would like to especially thank all the staff and volunteers at Salem Home especially the Cottonwood staff, Pastor James Peters, Diedrich and Neta Friesen, and Wiebe Funeral Home for all your compassion and caring. Thank you!
